Art in Sri Lanka: A bare canvas?

Why are Sigiriya rock paintings unique?

Yes, this assertion that they are "unique" could be challenged. That is because, there are similar paintings at Ajantha, India. Many articles have been written on this subject claiming one or the other.

The uniqueness I am pointing out is that these paintings provide an insight to the mind of the patron of these paintings - King Kasyapa. He had perpetrated a cardinal crime. He was ostracised by the Sasana. A playboy under siege, waiting for his ultimate fate. Enjoying life while it lasted. So, the deviation from the traditional path - indulgence in life. The uniqueness is in that aspect. Perhaps the only one in Sri Lanka?
