Homage

Oh, our war heroes!
        Let us gloat,
        Let us eulogise,
        Let us praise,
        Let us celebrate!

Oh, our war heroes!
        Let us engrave them in stone,
        Let us set them in song,
        Let us pen epics for posterity,
        Let us invoke merits of a thousand good deeds.

Oh, our war heroes!
        They died, not for a nation
                  of theirs;
        They died, not for a language
                  of theirs;
        They died, not for a culture
                  of theirs;
        They died, not for a future
                  of theirs.

They died,
         Just for a piece of land!

What the visitors say...

Leaving "our" also is general! It refers to the group the reader belongs to.
If a Chinese reads it, the our refers to "our Chinese"
If a Russian reads it, the our refers to "our Russian..."
etc. etc.

It also agrees nicely we the "us" in "let us etc..."

I'm also not sure about the following:
They died, not for a nation
        of theirs;

They died, not for THE / THAT (?) nation
        of theirs;
etc.

Maybe "a" should be replaced by "that".

*** Very nice poem ***
Get it published!

That is brilliant...
Should have it published in one of the daily or Sunday newspaper in SL.
& be included in your anthology!
